  1. I would love to win this prize! Not only do I already collage, I do it for a living! :D Even better, I've taken and loved Randel's class - and if it's ever offered in your area, so should you. :)

  2. I collage like a madwoman! I just bought The Collage Workbook, which I consider to be "the art school I never had"! I have been learning a lot about design and composition. Thanks for all the good advice and instruction, Randel! Someday I hope to be able to take one of your classes!

  7. Wonderful idea. I could use inspiration, as your subtitle says. I too often get stuck focusing on technique and materials and find myself with artist block when it comes to content!

  8. I have been creating collages since I first saw a retrospective of Kurt Schwitters' work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1968. The idea that you could take found bits and scraps of paper, cardboard, fabric, or what-have-you, from a variety of sources, and give these seemingly insignificant castoffs new life, by assembling them into a collage was a thrilling revelation, at the time, and still is! The medium of collage has had a lasting positive effect on my life, and permeates how I think about, and view the ever-changing world around me. I would love to win the two books and, of course, Randel's collage. Thanks, so much, for the opportunity!

  9. Randel, I love collage and I'm inspired when I see your collage work in my inbox. They're such a great reminder that you're working. I also love that they're for sale. Such a great way to get your work out into the world. I'd love to check out your book. Congratulations on the second printing! Great frame too! What is your frame source? Are they a standard size frame and can they be purchased online?

    Thanks,

  11. I have been a collagist since 2004. I'm actually in the Masters: Collage book so, if I win, I will gift that one to someone who I feel needs it. Love the work that you're doing, Randel. Keep it up!

  12. I’ve been creating collage artworks for as long as I can remember, and eventually found a regular place for them on my hand-made greeting cards. A few years ago I decided to enlarge my investigations, but it wasn’t until I experienced an exhibition of collage curated by Randel that I devoted myself to the medium as a primary artistic pursuit. Thanks, Mr. Plowman!

  16. I once knew a collagist named Hermia,
who's fingers where gluey, nox dermia.
To her nose she did scratch
    attaching a thatch
of papers and bits of ephemeria.

    Happy Summer Days of Collaging.
Love the Masters book and may just have to order the other for the anticipation is too much for me.

  19. Although I do often attempt to work in collage and have over the years actually created some collages I consider successful, mostly collage frustrates me. I 've gathered materials for years, but somehow I lack the eye to be able to create collages at will. I bought Randel's book a month or so ago and, interestingly, it helped my rubber stamping greatly, so I have high hopes for my collage.

    P.S. I loved Randel's "She."

  20. yes, i collage, but would love to learn more tricks of the trade.

  21. I am a fifth-grade teacher with a great appreciation of all types of art, which I try to inspire in my students. The last collage I created was in elementary school, but I collect materials for collaging, and my recent subscription to the collage-a-day is inspiring me to get started. This year, Randel's collages will be added to the daily art gallery In my classroom, to inspire them as well!

  22. I’d love to collage like a madwoman but I don’t unfortunately. But in time I will! You’ll just wait & see!

  23. I'm a photographer but I love Plowman's work, and even bought a collage of his a few years back.

  24. I came to your blog by happenstance (My favorite way of finding new sites.) The idea of you doing a collage a day was fascinating. That is, being that I'm wanting to overcome an artist block.

As far as doing collages myself goes -- I've done it a little -- I get stuck somewhere along the process.

I have ideas -- but putting them to work -- is part of my challenge. There are too many products, mediums & ways to do things that are causing me to balk.

So I need to learn how to use what I have on hand consistently.

I would sure appreciate a copy of your book to learn your methodology.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Whether one looks at Randel Plowman as an artist, educator, curator, or author, one comes away highly impressed. Keep up the outstanding work during this centennial of collage, 1912-2012.

  112. Collage, I have discovered, can be the window to the lives of loved ones. I have memories that are just waiting to be used in collage. I have moved these things for the last 30 years from one home to another. Shoeboxes of old love letters, scraps that never made it into books, pieces of material, buttons, newspaper clippings, old books, faded photographs, ticket stubs. Everything that made up the life of my mother and aunt that can now be transformed into beautiful meaningful art that I can enjoy and pass on to my kids. Keep those stories and history alive!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I've followed your blog for ages, and bought two of your collages Randel. (one arrived a few days ago. Hooray!) Unforts it's a bit far for you to travel to Australia to give a workshop session. If only you could! I'd love to win this prize, but have to admit, if I don't, I'll be buying your book anyway. Can't wait to read it. I paint, illustrate and mosaic, but I really want to learn the nuts and bolts of how to collage so I can incorporate it effectively into my illustration work. Congratulations on your great work. I love it. Cheers, Judy
