All New Projects and Content

Collage is the art of recycling. It takes the old and makes it new again
through fragmenting, re-contextualizing and combining imagery in new and interesting ways.

This six-week course explores the many possibilities that collage can offer.
The workshop starts Saturday, January 24 and runs through Saturday, February 28. 2025.

TOPICS EXPLORE DURING THIS COLLAGE WORKSHOP

Looking at Collage
• Brief history of collage from the 20th century until now.
• Weekly introduction to artists working in the medium of collage.
• Exploring the varied styles and techniques used in collage.
• Posting your projects and viewing other’s projects using weekly online galleries.

Getting Started
• Introduction to materials and processes.
• Understanding color and how to effectively use it for creating strong composition.
• An overview of simple elements and principles of good design and how to use them in your art.
• Sourcing material to use for collage.
• Creating image boards the generate new ideas.

Techniques
Several collage techniques will be explored in this online collage workshop

This class will meet every Saturday at 2pm est via Zoom for a approximately 2 hours and will use an online classroom called Canvas, which will allow participant to share work, view videos, demos and projects. All video demos will be recorded to watch at any time. Everyone will have full access to all the content for 3 months. All content is also downloadable.

After signing up you will receive an invitation to join our online classroom and a material list.

Randel Plowman received his M.F.A. in printmaking from University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.F.A. from Northern Kentucky University. He has exhibited in solo and juried exhibitions throughout the United States; in addition, his work appears in many public and private collections in North America and abroad, his work has been cited in numerous publications, including The New York Times and USA Today; been featured in The Paris Review, How Design magazine, Artist Magazine and Somerset Studio. He is the author of two books, Masters: Collage, and The Collage Workbook: How To Get Started And Stay Inspired, voted Best Art Instruction Book of 2012 by the Library Journal. Plowman is currently a full time professor in printmaking at Northern Kentucky University.

New Approaches to Mixed Media Collage: 6 Week Online Workshop 

Join artist and author Randel Plowman for a 6-week online collage workshop.
Beginning and advanced artists alike will benefit from this hands-on online workshop filled with downloadable projects and video demos, discussions about materials and techniques and more.  In addition to creating collages, participants will also learn about matting and framing their work. Those signing up for the course will also have the opportunity to participant in a theme-based online exhibition. An exhibition book will also be published that will include everyone’s work.
Everyone will be able to download projects and video demos to work on at their own convenience, share work and comment on others work on a private group site and read weekly interviews from other artists working in collage and more.

Workshop starts: September 12 and will run through October 24, 2015
Some of the things that will be featured in this course:

  •   8- online collage projects with downloadable video demos
  •   Overview of materials and tools
  •   Weekly artists interviews
  •   Ability to share your work with others taking the course
  •   Documenting your work: scanning, photographing and preparing your work for the web.
  •   Overview of matting and framing your art
  •   Optional one on one critiques via email
  •   Opportunity to participate in a theme-based online group collage exhibition which will include an optional book with everyone’s work and more.  
A material list will be sent a few weeks before the course starts and are typically kept to a minimum with basis art supplies. The cost for the 6 week online course is only $120.

New Online Mixed Media Collage Workshop

Join artist and author Randel Plowman for an 8 week personalized collage art workshop.  Each person signing up for the course will be provided with projects catered to their own skill levels and or time constraints. The course is custom designed for both beginner and advanced artist. Whether you want to work on a series or body of work or simply want to try new techniques for collage this workshop in for you.

Some of the things featured in this course:

·      Downloadable online video demos and prompts
·      Online classroom with group discussion forums
·      Private Facebook group for sharing your work with others taking the course
·      Weekly projects and ideas to enhance your creativity
·      Optional one on one critiques via email, Skype or phone
·      Creating a body of work based on a themes.
·      Daily creativity prompts
·      Documenting your work
·      Optional group critiques via Skype
·      After the course is complete a themed-based online exhibition will be presented. Participants taking the course will get to choose the theme or title for this exhibition

The course starts March 22 and continues until May 24. A material list will be sent a few weeks before the course starts. Supplies are typically kept to a minimum using mostly basis art supplies.  The cost for the entire 8-week course is only $150
